Changing Lives

The "Changing Lives" Program is designed to provide a platform where people from all walks of life can join in to help make a difference to the lives of people here at home in our local communities. It is intended to use the Mercy Truck accommodation units as onsite bases while undertaking neighbourhood development projects. Onboard the secondary Mercy Truck trailer would be an array of versatile equipment such as a digger, dumper, roller, cement mixer, hand tools etc. The types of community projects undertaken would activities such as building a children's play area, a community garden or helping to tidy up buildings, for example community centres, youth clubs and other work. Many other agencies will also be involved with these important projects.
There is a multitude of benefits in undertaking these works for example, helping young people at high risk of offending to improve their social skills. When people work together to undertake projects in a community there is a real sense of achievement and a long lasting feel-good factor, thus helping to protect the work undertaken. It also gives younger people an opportunity to experience real work. This could also provide a recruitment platform for our overseas projects.
